New team folder features help small businesses work smarter together

New web/mobile, Windows, and Mac team folder iconsIn many small companies, work involves a variety of people that don’t show up on your employee directory. Freelancers, vendors, and clients might be outside your company, but they’re an important part of your everyday workflows. We’ve heard from many of you that organizing the files all these different people need—so everyone can work together—is a top priority. Today, we’re making it easier to keep everyone on the same page, with team folder enhancements that simplify collaboration for your team.

Team folders in Dropbox are a great way to automatically give everyone in your company access to project files and frequently used documents. But people outside your company often need to work on files stored in your team folders, too. With the improvements launching today, you can now share specific folders inside team folders with collaborators outside your Dropbox Business team, keeping everything in one place.

It’s a great way to centralize files across your company, while giving select people outside the team access to what they need. For instance, you can safely share a “For Review” folder stored inside your project files to get ongoing feedback from a client. Or you can give your 401(k) administrator access to a benefits folder so they can add and update plan forms every year.

We released this functionality in our early access program two weeks ago, and already, over 4,000 customers have enrolled. One of those customers, Robert D. Grossman of electronic security system consulting firm R. Grossman & Associates, Inc., said, “With half my team working remotely, it’s important for us to have a reliable place where we can easily access company files. This new feature allows my team to truly collaborate—simplifying the way we work with each other and external vendors, no matter where they are.”

You’ll also notice that we’ve given team folders a new icon featuring a building. Now as you navigate through your Dropbox, you’ll be able to tell at a glance whether a folder is private, shared, or available to your whole team. The new and improved team folder functionality is available today. To learn more, visit our Help Center.
