Introducing mobile prompts for two-step verification

If you’ve ever been locked out of your account, you know it can be a major frustration—especially when you have deadlines to meet, and people waiting on you to respond. The problem is, many users cannot reliably receive text messages or don’t keep track of emergency backup codes. And sometimes you don’t have your two-factor authentication code generator or U2F security key on hand. We work hard to make security easy, so we developed a new solution you can use as a backup in these situations. Starting today, you can also use the Dropbox mobile app to verify your identity. When you’re signing in, you can have a notification sent to the Dropbox app on your phone, and simply tap a button to finish the process, rather than receiving a text message with a code to enter. Mobile prompts are especially helpful as a backup when you don't have cell signal, but do have Wi-Fi (for example, on a plane where you can’t receive security codes by text message). You can access mobile prompts for two-step verification by clicking on the “Having trouble getting a code?” link after you enter your email and password on dropbox.com. This feature builds on our existing security features, including the security checkup tool we launched in June, to help you keep your account secure as you work in Dropbox.
